Adelaide is sleeping on the bed right now, while a the first thunderstorm of the season is hitting. I am glad she is sleeping because she’s right at the age where dogs develop storm phobias — 2 to 3 years old.

I’ve never had a storm phobic dog. I don’t do anything special other than if a big lightning bolt causes them to jump, I make all kinds of happy noises and tell them what a wonderful dog they are. It’s worked so far.

Here’s a picture I took of Adelaide today, using a vignette filter on my cell phone camera. Isn’t she cute?

Tell me in the comments if you have/had a dog and if they had a storm phobia. Thanks for stopping by!

My A for Angie dog has also been terrified tonight by the first thunderstorm of the season. I sat on the floor with her for a while but like you i mostly just act like everything is normal. I’m pretty impressed that she didn’t crawl under the bed once tonight. She’s come a long way since we got her 4.5 years ago.

Yup! Our dog, Lucky, was terrified of thunderstorms. And he hated the 4th of July, too. For days after, he’d slink around the house on our heels, afraid the noise would reappear.

Just popping by from the A-Z Challenge. Adelaide is gorgeous. I have a dog, Beanie Boy. I haven’t had him that long and we don’t often get storms so I have no idea how it will affect him. None of my previous dogs were frightened.
