Donna’s Class – Week 4

\"\"

‘,’This week\’s assignment was to make a digital page. Have I mentioned before how much I hate digital scrapbooking? It feels too much like my day job.

But I was a good sport, and made this page:

For something I hate doing, I keep turning out pretty good looking digital pages. BUT I AM NOT GOING DIGITAL.

I can\’t afford the required 12 x 12 printer…’,’

Donna’s Class – Week 3

\"\"

This week it\’s called Five Things and Five Piles. We\’re supposed to think of five things to scrapbook, and then make five piles of pictures for the things, and put the pictures in an envelope.

Well, I have a whole box full of these type of envelopes done all ready. Here\’s a sample:

And here\’s another one.

Oh, and that just the girls\’. I have another box full that is for my Book of Me.

Call this assignment done! (Hee-Hee)’,’

Stacy’s Class – Daily Creativity Assignments #1 & #2

\"\"

I\’m taking Stacy Julian\’s creativity class through Big Picture Scrapbooking — the same place where I am taking Donna Downey\’s class. So far, I am very happy with these classes because I feel like I am stretching beyond the typical class I would take in a scrapbook store. It\’s a little like being on an extended, slow moving Club Scrap retreat. Creative projects, ideas, fun things to think about.

I think after all the years that I have been doing some kind of craft (needlepoint, sewing, stamping, scrapping), this is exactly what I need. And you know what? I\’ve been able to do it all so far with the stuff I have in my stash. I love that I am using my existing materials and Club Scrap papers. I may not have a ton of fancy supplies, or the latest, coolest thing. But I have some quality stuff.

It will be fun to see how my creativity expands over the next four weeks of Stacy\’s class. It will also be fun to see how much influence Donna\’s class has over my work in Stacy\’s and vice versa. Come watch my creativity grow. (That was assignment #2)

Here\’s assignment #1 make two signs stating \”I am creative\”. You are suppose to put them on your bathroom mirror and the rearview mirror of your car. Well, I don\’t spend that much time in the car, and DEFINITELY not that much time in the bathroom! So, I am going to put one on top of my computer and the other one on the table next to my bed. I spend most of my time on the computer or sleeping. Makes sense to put them there.

So here are my creativity signs. I don\’t know that they are very creative. But I did learn something about myself. I really, really, REALLY hate alphabet rub-ons. I\’d give them to the kids, except I\’d probably find them rubbed-on all over the dogs. Must find the perfect interested party who might like them. Or what\’s left of them.

Any volunteers?’

Donna’s Class – Week 1

‘,’I\’m taking Donna Downey\’s year long class through Big Picture Scrapbooking.

This first week, our assignment was to alter the cover of our date book. I\’ve never altered anything, except clothing. It was an experience … and it worked out pretty well. What do you think?

Paper is from the Club Scrap Earth & Herbs Kit. Ribbons from my stash!

Sarah Picks a College

Although she is just seven years old, Sarah has set her mind on the school she wants to attend after high school.

Macalester College (www.macalester.edu). Otherwise known as The Princeton of the Prairie. It’s about 1/2 mile from our house – in Macalester-Groveland (www.macgrove.org). And yes, this is the Macalester that most of our dogs’ names come from.

The kid will have to get straight A’s from here on out PLUS her parents will need to win the lottery.

At least she has decided she does not want to live on campus. She wants to live with us while going to college. Awwww… should save tens of thousands off the total tution bill down the line.

John’s Doggy Anatomy Lesson

I have to wonder about my husband’s upbringing. He had a male dog as a child, but seems to know absolutely nothing about male dog anatomy. Thank goodness he is married to me, who has a BS in Natural Science and some anatomy & physiology courses in her past.

Last night he says, “Are you sure Laddie is neutered?” I confirmed that yes, he is neutered and that the vet says Laddie is neutered too. (Laddie came to us neutered.) “But what are those bumps … and stuff … down by his… down below…?”, he stammers. So, I go through and give him an anatomy lesson, much to his chagrin.

The best part? Our friend Karen was sitting in the living room as all this is going on, laughing.

I expected I would have to explain anatomy to my girls as they got older. I never thought I’d have to explain it to my husband.

Diaper Boy(s)

I took this picture at Sarah’s request, because her friends at school don’t believe that her puppy wears a diaper.
It looks more like a cumberbun, but it does the trick. Oh, it is bliss not to be mopping pup-pee off the floor on a daily, if not hourly basis.

It has other benefits, too. The absorbant part of the diaper is a maxi pad. John now knows all about maxi pads. He never touched one before we put Laddie Macalester in his diaper. Said it grossed him out for a week. Took him another week for him to realize there was adhesive on the back of the maxi pad…

Laddie Mac’s diaper cover gets … wet … on occasion. John figured out he could put together some zip ties, put them by a furnace fan vent in the basement, and hang the freshly hand-washed (by him!) diaper cover on this make-shift clothes line.

“Free dryer!” he says proudly. That guy loves his baby boy.
